U.S. intelligence community: developments

Since Trump took office, the US intel community (IC) has been under constant refurbishment. The US IC has seen its leadership changed, several times, and some agencies have been under a special pressure, namely the FBI and DNI.

Here you can see a review of how those changes have affected the main agencies: CIA, FBI, NSA, DNI and DIA. But the conclusions, to put it bluntly can be summarised as follows:

💡All of them are politically affected, though with different intensity.

💡All of them have reduced personnel. Retirements and leave of absence have increased.

💡DNI is the most politically affected. It doesn’t mean critical thinking is over. But it’s critical because DNI it’s a kind of fusion cell that serves the intelligence picture to the President.

💡The FBI has been forced to take action in the investigations of Trump-related cases.

💡CIA is focused on a dual track: technical capabilities update and fine tuning of analysis. Its primary role within the IC is preserved, thanks to Ratcliffe´s influence on the President.

💡The NSA is very much into developing more capabilities in AI and redirecting efforts in Asia and operations support.

💡DIA is the least affected, at least in the public eye, but the grip on this agency is executed by the War Secretary.
