Spyware: a tool or a threat?

Tools such as Candiru, Predator, and Pegasus are not new. While primarily deployed by governments, their use has at times fallen outside legal bounds. Given the diversity of governmental ideologies and interests, the resulting target sets can be unlikely bedfellows.

Pegasus has been recently at the core of many controversies. Spain, Hungary, Morocco or Greece, to name a few, and other governments have been using it in ways which have resulted in political implications.

In addition to spyware, you can also revert back to other article in this blog related to the use of Encrochat by criminal organizations (Sky ECC and al.) and the way authorities through their law enforcement agencies have reacted to it.

It seems that increasing capabilities in the digital realm leads humanity to better ways to control behaviours. It is a trend which is being shaped and settled as time goes by. However, it should be taken into account that power has to be restrained by external forces as power with no control leads to abuse. History shows it.

Here you have a podcast in different languages, as this matter affects everyone and we want to make it friendly to everyone. Enjoy.

The AI-generated voice on the the fake “podcast” is so bad. Why did you pick the “Credulous local NPR host interviews paranoid conspiracy theorist” style option? 🤣 Do you have a *transcript* we could read, instead?

Thanks for your comment. The reader is free to make his/her own decision. That’s why one of the speakers is in favour of and the other reluctant to use spyware. There is no transcript but you can use Whisper to get the transcription (https://huggingface.co/spaces/Xenova/whisper-web). We were just trying tools and making our best to enhance the reader’s experience. Thank you again and be sure your input helps us to be better and it is much appreciated.
