In May 2025, Portugal unmasked another couple of Russian illegals who lived in Porto. They held originally Brazilian nationality. Brazil seems to have been widely used by Russia to create false identities for its programme of illegals.
Brazil is a country of mixtures. White and black people have been mixing for centuries and no one stands out by its appearance. A slightly foreign accent in your Portuguese is easily masked by having been brought up abroad or by saying that one of your parents was a foreigner. Brazil has a huge countryside where digitization has not arrived yet. Birth certificates are easily fabricated and corrupt civil servants may give you access to whatever you may need.
